Metsänpeitto

(lit.) forest's cover

In Finnish folklore it was told that if one got lost in the forest, the forest could hide or cover (peittää) the person completely. If someone would come looking they could not see or hear the person covered by the forest. The phenomenon of getting supernaturally lost was called metsänpeitto. To prevent losing cattle to metsänpeitto one could make a spell. Metsänpeitto greatly resembles kamikakushi, or spiriting away, found in Japanese folklore.
